The AI Democracy: OpenAI’s Dev Day Announcements

The AI Democracy: OpenAI's Dev Day Announcements

It seems like a futuristic sci-fi fantasy: you type 10 words on your device and your international trip is all planned, your family members have all received their holiday e-cards, and you’ve got pages of research compiled for tomorrow morning’s meeting. With OpenAI’s new updates, this could be our reality within a few months.

In their first in-person event on Monday, OpenAI announced product updates, integrations, and customizations coming soon. These changes expand the capabilities of existing GPT and AI technology. So how do the Dev Day announcements relate to the advertising and paid media industry?

The AI Democracy: OpenAI's Dev Day Announcements

The Power of Personalization in AI and Paid Media

As paid media professionals, we’ve had personalization on our minds for some time now; consumers expect it. We build campaigns on personalization as well – analyzing customer journeys, building audience personas, and engaging A/B testing to see what resonates most with each audience segment. We already know that consumers are more receptive to personalized ads, but with AI tapping into the preference for personalization, what do paid media experts need to know?

OpenAI is changing the AI democracy game by allowing users to create their own versions of GPTs. With no extensive coding knowledge required, this move enables users to build custom AI bot assistants – and the use cases are seemingly endless. As OpenAI’s CEO said on Monday, “Eventually, you’ll just ask the computer for what you need, and it’ll do all of these tasks for you,” such as booking travel or emailing colleagues. From enhanced, personalized customer service to streamlining data analysis and insight delivery, the possibilities are endless.

Alongside these custom GPTs, OpenAI is set to launch a GPT Store. This digital platform will initially feature creations from “verified builders,” allowing users to share and sell their custom GPT bots. Through these innovative developments, OpenAI is driving the democratization of AI technologies, encouraging wider exploration and application of AI, and shaping a new era of AI-driven solutions.

Chat-GPT’s Turbocharged Innovations

Updated Information:

  • Users familiar with OpenAI will know that previous versions were only updated with information up to September 2021
  • GPT-4 Turbo and GPT-3.5 Turbo now include a knowledge base up until April 2023.
  • Alongside GPT’s new knowledge, it can now process 300+ pages of text in a single prompt compared to the previous 3,000 words.
  • This model comes in two versions: text-focused and dual-capable (text and images), enhancing AI’s data processing capabilities.

API Integration:

  • Beyond GPT-4 Turbo, OpenAI has expanded the functionalities of ChatGPT through the introduction of several new API
  • This includes DALL-E 3 for text-to-image tasks, Audio API for text-to-speech tasks, and the enhanced Whisper large-v3 for automatic speech recognition.

Although ChatGPT and AI tools are evolving, their capabilities cannot replace a strong client-agency relationship. Nuanced understanding of your business goals, thoughtful media strategy, and dedicated partnership are what truly drive conversions. Advertisers and media teams alike can leverage AI’s offerings, but only as an aid to build upon the human experience.

What’s Next in Paid Media?

The rollout process for OpenAI’s updates has already begun. In advertising, and specifically in paid media, marketers will see changes quickly. We are closely monitoring the implications and opportunities as they unfold.
